Feltrando is a portuguese brand founded in 2015. Local Cultural Heritage, Sustainability, and Craftsmanship are the cornerstones of this company.

We bring back tradition and reinvigorate local know how, by reusing an industrial textile residue: FELT. With passion, we create and manufacture top design quality textile items.

Our products embody the history of our region, in northern Portugal, and spread it across the globe. We are an example of harmonic manufacturing, design, and tradition.

Artist, Designer & Founder

Founded by artist and designer Filomena Almeida in 2015, Feltrando is a personal design project rooted in a longstanding artistic practice and in a continuous exploration of materials, craftsmanship and local cultural heritage.

Filomena Almeida graduated in Fine Arts from E.S.A.D. — Escola Superior de Arte e Design das Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. Since 1995, she has developed her artistic practice in sculpture, working primarily with stone, wood and metal, while progressively exploring the intersections between sculpture and design.

Her professional path has also included teaching, vocational training and the development of design projects, bringing together artistic practice, material experimentation and the transmission of knowledge.

Her interest in materials and in both industrial and handmade processes eventually led her to felt — an industrial material deeply connected to the history of the hat-making industry in northern Portugal. This encounter became the starting point for a new field of experimentation, in which traditional knowledge, industrial residue and contemporary design could meet.

Feltrando emerged from this process. It is a space where art, design, craftsmanship, local heritage and sustainability come together, transforming industrial felt residue into contemporary objects, projects and experiences.
